If you're considering getting a pair of gerbils, you'll need to find a place to get them. Always do your research before purchasing a pair of gerbils. Never only get one gerbil, they are very social and need to be in pairs of the same sex (unless you plan on breeding them). When you arrive at the place you plan to get the gerbils from, ask to handle them so you can see if they are friendly. When you find two gerbils that seem friendly, check their health. (Check the health section!) After finding two friendly, healthy gerbils of the same sex, ask the breeder or pet store people when the gerbils were born. A breeder usually will be able to tell you a specific date, but pet stores might be able to give an estimate. (Pet stores also commonly miss-sex the pair, leaving you with an unwanted litter.)
