Healthy food is actually harder to find for gerbils than you might think. You can't just feed any hamster & gerbil mix out there. Choose and pick carefully. I'll put pictures and names of good food brands for gerbils. The rule of thumb is to avoid food with sugary bits, corn (including corn flakes), peanuts, and molasses. Seeds are okay for gerbils, but aren't exactly the most healthy food for them as they don't eat too many seeds in the wild like hamsters do. Try to find a pellet only diet and supplement the daily food with healthy treats such as: Mealworms (live and freeze dried), dark green vegetables, and some hay (timothy, orchard grass, oat hay) to eat and nest in. I actually feed my gerbils rabbit pellets and supplements. I've found this to be the most healthy diet low in fat and high in fiber. It's so low in fat however that healthy treats with high fat content should be fed weekly. These treats include: cooked meat (chicken, turkey, and scrambled eggs), and chopped walnuts. Variety is important! :)

Safe and healthy foods include Oxbow brand hamster and gerbil food, Carefresh hamster and gerbil food, and SmallWorld pellet feed for rabbits. (This is what I feed my gerbils, it's really healthy and low in fat, but you need to supplement their diet a little.
